Getting a Thai Driver's License

For those who come on a trip, it doesn't matter if you don't have to get a Thai driver's license.
If you are traveling, you can get an international driver's license from your country if you are going to use a rental car.
The types of driver's license issuance recommendations are as follows.

1. If you're a frequent visitor to golf courses on a long trip, you'll need a local driver's license. I haven't been there yet, but most golf courses in Chiang Mai offer discounts on green fees if you bring a local driver's license. To be precise, they offer much cheaper fares than foreigners' fares

2. Some of the long-term residents in the country don't know well about those who have obtained an international license, but the international driver's license has an expiration date. You have to go back to your home country and renew your international license during that period. So you can decide after checking the period of renewal of your international license.

3. If you have a local driver's license, you don't have to have an international driver's license when driving, and you can use it for simple identification purposes and receive benefits. In principle, foreigners must always carry their passports and international driver's licenses to drive, but after receiving their local licenses, they don't have to carry their international licenses with them, and some tourist attractions say that if you present your license instead of your passport when entering, you can enter at a local rate.

Now, the supplies required to issue a driver's license are as follows.

4. Photo (You don't need to take it separately because it's taken right away when you issue a license)

Above, 1, 2, and 4 are easy to do, and the complicated one is number 3. In case of number 2, if you go to any clinic on the street and come to get a health certificate for issuing a driver's license, you will get it issued after completing some simple tests, but the cost varies slightly from hospital to hospital (150-250 baht). The time required was less than 10 minutes. It is only valid for a month from the date of issuance, so you need to apply for a driver's license within that period.

When all the supplies are ready, search for Chiang Mai Road Transportation Bureau on GPS and visit.
When you arrive, go directly to the 2nd floor of the main building and don't line up at the visible information, go straight to counter 27. Once you submit the prepared documents, the person in charge will check the documents to be copied. If you take it and look to the back left of counter 27, you can see a copy of the copy, and if you go there, you will copy the checked parts. When I went back to counter 27 with that, I went over the documents and put a note on the document file stating that it should come a week later. I will visit with that document on the specified date.

When the date comes, visit again, go to counter 27, and submit it, stamp the documents, organize the documents, and return them. After that, go to the counter next to you and tell them to pay for it. Take a counter number, wait, go submit the documents, pay the fees, and come inside.

If you sit inside, call them and take a picture of them, and wait a little bit, and the license will come out right away.


Documents and procedures are more cumbersome than you think, but if you get a driver's license, you can use it for two years, especially for those who enjoy golf.
