“Goosebumps Wiang Ping”, Chiang Mai Province, an event that stimulates faith tourism and Thai beliefs

Invite to visit the Goosebumps Festival, Wiang Ping, Chiang Mai Province, an event organized by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), opening up a travel experience of faith and belief, along with many fun, exciting and beautiful activities, on August 29 - September 1, 2024 at the public park on the land of the State Railway of Thailand, Chiang Mai Province.

The Wiang Ping Ghost Festival, an event organized by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), continues the success of the Makkasan Ghost Festival that was previously held. TAT believes that this event will be one of the events that will greatly boost the Thai tourism economy.

 “The Hair-Raising Festival, Wiang Ping” Episode: Mae Nak Visits the North will gather activities and businesses related to the beliefs and faiths of Thai people that are unique and are trending and of interest to Thai people at all levels. The focus is on creating an impression and experience to invite tourists to travel to various places. 

The event will be held at a public park on the land of the State Railway of Thailand in Chiang Mai Province. This place will be the first event to revive this public park, which is appropriate in terms of its history of more than 100 years and is also the origin of the prosperity of the Thai railway business, and is full of an interesting, hair-raising atmosphere. The event area will be over 31,000 square meters, and there will be 70 local entrepreneurs/communities participating in the booths.

Within the event, the Wiang Ping Goosebumps Festival will gather stories of Lanna Thai culture in various concepts of belief, including knowledge passed down from ancestors, to use Thai cultural capital to further develop the economy and stimulate travel to the original tourist attractions in the form of a fun, exciting and beautiful event. The event is divided into 8 activities:

1. Supplementary Line: Area for those interested in enhancing auspiciousness, such as amulets, amulet accessories, art toys, lottery tickets, etc.          

2. Foodies: Participants will enjoy delicious street food, famous local food, traditional Thai food, ancient desserts, herbal drinks, and a highlight, “Yan Meatballs”, a special dish for this festival. The meatballs are inscribed with the famous Na Luecha Yantra, cooked with a consecrated soup mixed with holy water, and boiled in a pot inscribed with auspicious Yantras (Na Phok Sapp, Chatturo Yantra, Setthi Yantra).

3. Worship line: Pin sacred objects for participants to worship and ask for blessings, fortune, and work, such as King Rama V and the Buddha statue in the Dharma Hall.

4. Merit-making: There will be activities in the event to make merit by donating coffins to the Sawang Samret Chiang Mai Foundation and donating old clothes to be recycled into fibers to produce new sports shirts to be donated to students in remote areas.

5. Fortune Telling: Find activities to read feng shui and cards with famous fortune tellers, such as Ajarn Maem, Oracle cards, Thepkati set, Ajarn Nun, Tong Songjai cards, etc.

6. Fun Line: Participants will have fun with traditional temple fair activities such as Ferris wheel, water gun shooting, balloon throwing, and girl falling into water.

7. Horror Line: Bring the army to be scared with the haunted gallery, including watching outdoor ghost movies, demonstrating how to play the spirit cup, and decorating the area around the event area, such as the Blood Bridge, Blacklight Tunnel, etc.

8. Sai Yo: Meet famous artists who will come to watch the fun and excitement with concerts by Lanna Commins, Gap The Voice, Don The Voice and Prang Prangthip The Voice.

In addition, it also promotes tourism linking from the event by presenting tourism linking to tourist attractions, such as the tourist route to worship the pagodas of each birth year, namely the Year of the Snake - Wat Chet Yot, the Year of the Goat - Wat Phra That Doi Suthep Ratchaworawihan, the Year of the Dragon - Wat Phra Singh Woramahawihan, the Year of the Rat - Wat Phra That Si Chom Thong Worawihan, and the Year of the Dog - Wat Ketkaram, which are in Chiang Mai Province. In addition, Chiang Mai Province also has many famous temples that have beliefs and faith in various aspects, such as Wat Pa Daed for success, Wat Lok Moli for love, Wat Upakut for money, Wat Sri Don Mun for charm, popularity, and auspiciousness.
